If you’ve ever looked at MSC Virtuosa and thought, “She looks amazing, but she’s big, and I’d prefer something a little more exclusive”, let me introduce you to the Yacht Club. It’s MSC’s ship within a ship concept and honestly, once you’ve stepped inside, the rest of the ship suddenly feels like the general population in a period drama. The Yacht Club is calm, elegant and quietly indulgent. It’s like MSC said, “What if we made a private hotel on top of a mega ship?” and then actually did it. Read on to find out all about the Yacht Club on MSC Virtuosa: Your luxury ship within a ship.

What exactly is the MSC Virtuosa Yacht Club?

The Yacht Club is a fully private area on Virtuosa for guests staying in certain suite categories. You get your own lounge, restaurant, sun deck, pool, concierge, butlers and priority pretty much everywhere. It feels separate from the main ship but still gives you full access to everything. Basically, you get peace and quiet when you want it and fun and energy when you’re in the mood.

Think exclusive, but without the snobby attitude. Very us.

When you book a room in the Yacht Club, the Premium Extra drinks package is also included, so you can grab a drink at the majority of the bars on board.

The experience starts before you even board

At Southampton, you’ll immediately see the blue Yacht Club gazebo perched outside the terminal, complete with blue carpet and attentive staff ready to help.  They’ll take your luggage and escort you straight inside and towards your private waiting area.

You’ll be checked in directly from your seat, with no need to queue, and offered a glass of bubbles and a snack!

Once you’re checked in and ready to board, the team of butlers will walk you into the ship and directly into the Yacht Club as one of the very first to embark.

The suites: Spacious, stylish and surprisingly thoughtful

The Yacht Club suites on Virtuosa are lovely. You get a little more space, a proper seating area, a comfortable bed and lots of little touches that make a big difference.

Most people go for the Deluxe Suites which are generous without being over the top. If you fancy something bigger, there are Royal Suites with huge balconies, whirlpools and the kind of space that makes you wonder if you’ve accidentally booked a whole apartment. There are even inside cabins if you’re looking to dip your toe in the Yacht Club experience but don’t want to break the bank.

No matter which suite you choose, the whole experience just feels a bit more refined. Fresh fruit, nicer toiletries, a sense of calm. You can tell immediately that you’re in a different part of the ship. The mini bar is also included, and you even get a complimentary bottle of wine, champagne or a spirit of your choice in your suite!

The Top Sail Lounge: Your own private escape

Panoramic view from the Top Sail Lounge

The Top Sail Lounge is one of the highlights of the whole Yacht Club experience. It’s a quiet, beautifully designed lounge with panoramic views over the front of the ship. Perfect for a morning coffee, a pre dinner drink, or a little break in the afternoon with something sweet from the buffet. There’s also an afternoon tea served in here, all part of the Yacht Club experience so keep an eye on the daily programme.

It has this almost serene atmosphere that you won’t find elsewhere on Virtuosa. Soft music, comfy seating and staff who seem to know what you want before you even do.

A perk of the Top Sail Lounge is that your cruise card isn’t usually scanned when you order a drink as if you’re in the Yacht Club, they know you have a package.  This means drinks don’t count towards the 15-a-day limit… bonus!

The Yacht Club Restaurant: Elevated dining without the fuss

Your private restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and it’s a lovely step up from the main dining room. The menus are refined without being intimidating and the service is polished in a relaxed kind of way.

Expect great steak, fresh seafood, pastas, beautiful desserts and proper attention to detail. It’s the kind of dining that feels a little bit special every night without you having to go out of your way. Plus it’s right on your doorstep and if it’s a bit busy, just grab a drink in the lounge and it will soon quieten down.

You can still visit all the other dining venues on Virtuosa, but having your own restaurant waiting whenever you want it is a real treat.

The private sun deck: Peaceful perfection

Pool to myself!

One of the biggest perks is the exclusive sun deck. You get a private pool, hot tubs, plenty of loungers and a full service bar serving drinks and snacks without you needing to move a muscle. Towels are provided and there are even shady areas if you need them, it's really a fantastic space.

The outdoor buffet serves a variety of food pretty much all day, so you don’t even have to leave for lunch.

It’s quieter, calmer and far less crowded than the main pool deck. If you love a relaxed sea day with good service and space to actually breathe, this is the actual dream.

One thing to note is that the water in the pool is salt water, so keep your mouth closed!

Butler and Concierge service: A touch of indulgence

From priority boarding to sorting reservations, the Concierge desk handles everything with a smile. And then there’s your butler who can escort you around, bring treats to your room, carry your plates at the buffet if you want it and generally make life easier in the nicest way.

It’s not stuffy or overly formal. Just warm, helpful attention that makes your cruise feel more personalised.

I’ll be honest though, I’m someone who leans more towards doing everything myself and don’t use the butler service much at all, but on disembarkation day, they whisked me past the huge line of people queuing to leave the ship and I was off in seconds. I could definitely get used to that!

Why people love the Yacht Club

A lot of people book the Yacht Club once and don’t look back. It gives you the best of both worlds. You get all the energy, entertainment and choice of MSC Virtuosa, but with your own peaceful retreat when you want to escape the crowds.

Perfect if you love big ships but also enjoy a bit of luxury and privacy. And if you’re a bargain lover at heart, keep an eye on upgrade offers and bidding programmes. You might be pleasantly surprised by the price. I cannot wait to be back in the Yacht Club later this year, and I can honestly say, in my opinion, it’s absolutely worth it.

Leeroy's Final thoughts

The Yacht Club on MSC Virtuosa is one of the best value luxury options at sea. Beautiful spaces, fantastic service, private dining, serene sun decks and access to all the fun happening elsewhere on the ship. If you like a little indulgence with your holiday but don’t want to lose the big ship buzz, it’s absolutely worth considering. Do it, I dare you!
